What is MJE?

The Islamiyah Series & My Journey to Excellence (MJE)

Moving from Knowledge to Transformation

The Islamiyah Series was established in 2014 with a clear vision: to nurture Islam, Īmān and Iḥsān within the hearts of children, developing a strong Islamic identity and preparing the next generation to live as confident and practising Muslims.

The initial stages of the Islamiyah Series focused on building the foundations of Islam and Īmān through essential subjects such as:

  • Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence)
  • Akhlāq (character and manners)
  • ʿAqāʾid (Islamic beliefs)
  • Sīrah (The life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

These subjects provided children with the essential knowledge required to understand their faith, practise Islam correctly and develop a strong Islamic foundation.

However, as the curriculum developed, we recognised that the third dimension of faith — Iḥsān (Excellence) — required a deeper and more personal approach.

Iḥsān could not simply be taught through information and textbooks. It needed to be experienced, reflected upon and nurtured within the heart.

This realisation led to the development of the next stage of our journey:

What is MJE?

My Journey to Excellence (MJE) is a spiritual and character-development framework designed to nurture a child’s personal relationship with Allah Most High.

MJE aims to move children beyond simply knowing about Allah towards developing a genuine connection with Him.

It focuses on cultivating:

  • Love for Allah Most High.
  • Awareness of Allah’s presence.
  • Gratitude for His blessings.
  • Dependence upon Him.
  • Excellence in actions and character.

MJE was created with the understanding that true Islamic education is not only about transferring knowledge, but about transforming hearts.

The ultimate aim is to nurture children who do not merely learn about Islam, but experience Islam as a way of life.

Understanding Iḥsān — The Essence of Excellence

Iḥsān represents the highest level of spiritual awareness.

It means living with the consciousness that Allah Most High is always aware of us — He sees us, hears us and knows everything about us.

When this awareness becomes established within the heart, two beautiful transformations occur:

1. Excellence in Action (Iḥsān)

A person strives to perform every action with care, beauty and perfection because they recognise that Allah is watching them.

2. Sincerity of Intention (Ikhlāṣ)

Every action is performed sincerely for the pleasure of Allah Most High.

This is the essence of excellence:

Iḥsān transforms ordinary actions into acts of worship through the presence of the heart and purity of intention.

The Purpose of MJE

The purpose of My Journey to Excellence (MJE) is to connect children’s hearts to Allah Most High so that they grow into individuals who:

  • Remember Allah in every aspect of their lives.
  • Perform their actions with excellence.
  • Turn to Allah for all their needs through duʿā.
  • Develop a personal and meaningful relationship with their Creator.

The Goal of MJE

The ultimate goal of MJE is for children to live their lives seeking the pleasure of Allah Most High by following the Sunnah and blessed lifestyle of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

When this connection develops, everyday activities become acts of worship.

For example:

Qur’an

A child does not simply recite words; they develop the feeling that Allah Most High is communicating guidance to them.

Ṣalāh

A child does not simply perform movements; they recognise that they are standing before Allah.

Daily Life

Whether studying, playing, spending time with family or worshipping Allah, every moment becomes an opportunity to demonstrate excellence.

Our Vision for Every Child

Through MJE, we aim for every child to:

  • Keep Allah in their heart every day.
  • Turn to Allah for every need, big or small.
  • Develop excellent character.
  • Experience Iḥsān as a lived reality rather than simply a concept.

In simple terms:

MJE builds Iḥsān, and Iḥsān leads to the pleasure of Allah Most High.

How MJE is Structured

My Journey to Excellence (MJE) follows a simple, child-friendly framework designed to help children internalise Iḥsān through daily practice, reflection and communication with Allah Most High.

MJE consists of three core components:

  1. Declaration
  2. Reflection
  3. Duʿā

Each component is designed to be implemented within the daily Madrasah session.

1. Declaration — A Daily Reminder of Purpose and Identity

The Declaration is a short but powerful statement recited at the beginning of Madrasah.

Its purpose is to remind children:

  • Who they are.
  • Why they are learning.
  • Who they are striving to please.

How It Works

At the beginning of the lesson:

  • A teacher selects one student to stand and recite the Declaration.
  • The remaining students repeat sentence by sentence.
  • Through daily repetition, the message becomes embedded within their hearts.

Aim and Objective

The Declaration acts as an anchor for students, helping them begin each day with:

  • Clear intention.
  • Sincerity.
  • Purpose.
  • Focus.

It establishes the mindset that all learning and effort is ultimately for the pleasure of Allah Most High.

Implementation:
Daily at the start of Madrasah session (approximately 5 minutes).

2. Reflection — Developing Maʿrifatullāh (Knowing Allah)

Reflection helps children build a close and meaningful relationship with Allah Most High.

Through reflection, children learn to recognise Allah’s greatness by observing:

  • His creation.
  • His blessings.
  • His signs around them.

This develops gratitude, awareness and love for Allah.

The Journey of the Heart

Observation → Awareness → Recognition → Love

Observation

Children observe the world around them and recognise the signs of Allah’s creation.

Awareness

This observation develops awareness of Allah’s presence and involvement in their lives.

Recognition (Maʿrifatullāh)

Children begin to understand Allah’s greatness, mercy, power and care.

Gratitude

Recognising Allah’s blessings develops thankfulness.

Love (Maḥabbatullāh)

Gratitude naturally develops into love for Allah Most High.

The Transformation of the Heart

Through reflection, children gradually develop:

  • Awareness that Allah sees, hears and knows everything.
  • Recognition of Allah’s greatness and mercy.
  • A grateful heart.
  • Genuine love for Allah.
  • Trust and reliance upon Him.

This emotional and spiritual development forms the foundation of true Iḥsān.

Key Messages for Children

🌿 Maʿrifatullāh:
“Reflection helps me recognise the signs and greatness of Allah everywhere.”

💙 Maḥabbatullāh:
“Knowing Allah brings love for Allah into my heart.”

🌙 Iḥsān:
“I live knowing that Allah is always with me.”

Aim and Objective of Reflection

The ultimate purpose of reflection is to move children beyond awareness of Allah towards developing genuine love for Him.

When children truly know and love Allah:

  • They naturally want to please Him.
  • They develop gratitude.
  • They build a personal relationship with their Creator.
  • They find comfort through remembering Him.

Implementation:
Daily, integrated into lessons (approximately 5–10 minutes).

3. Duʿā — The Heartbeat of Connection

The final component of MJE teaches children to turn to Allah Most High for everything.

Duʿā becomes more than a routine practice; it becomes a personal conversation and connection with Allah.

Children learn that Allah:

  • Listens to them.
  • Cares for them.
  • Responds to them.

Duʿā becomes their first place of reliance rather than their last option.

Through Duʿā, Children Learn To:

  • Ask Allah for help in studies.
  • Seek guidance in friendships and challenges.
  • Thank Allah for blessings.
  • Share their hopes and worries with Him.
  • Develop closeness to Allah through sincere communication.

Aim and Objective of Duʿā

The objective of Duʿā is to help children understand that Allah Most High is the ultimate source of help and guidance.

Through regular practice, children develop:

  • Tawakkul (reliance upon Allah).
  • Trust in Allah.
  • Dependence upon Allah.
  • A lifelong habit of turning to Him.

This becomes a foundation for living with Iḥsān — the awareness that Allah is always near, always listening and always responding.
